Be professional, band managers urged

Speaking at meeting for band members, NACZ director Elvas Mari said professionalism was important towards the development of the arts sector.
“NACZ encourages band managers to be professional in their conduct of business, since it is through professional work ethics that the arts sector can take its rightful place as a contributor to the economic development of the country,” he said.
The meeting that was organised by NACZ is a series of stakeholder meetings, which are part of NACZ five-year strategic plan of professionalizing the arts sector.
He also encouraged band managers to look beyond just signing contracts but to also cater for the artists’ welfare, ensuring that artists are on medical cover, they have funeral policies and insure their instruments and create investment opportunities for artists.
Band managers who attended the event implored their bosses – the artists – not to undermine their roles if there were to work professionally as it is the band managers who can destroy or make an artist.
Zanele Nkomazana the band manager of Amavitikhazi encouraged band managers and artists to work together towards a common goal so that the music industry can prosper.
Some of the band managers who attended the meeting included Oliver Mtukudzi’s manager Sam Mataure, Jethro Tsandukwa – Alick Macheso, Tsungi Zvobgo – Victor Kunonga, Chiwoniso Maraire and Alexio, Cindy Munyavi – Leornard Mapfumo, Shiga – Tongai Moyo, among others.
