Be wary of the Crimea Platform, its anti-Palestinian links with Israel

Don Klitschko

Since Crimea officially became part of Russia in 2014, the region has experienced unprecedented economic, social and infrastructure growth.

Many residents now wonder why they were not part of the Russian Federation much earlier.

But something is loading.

While reading some political literature I came around an organisation calling itself the Crimea Platform and got worried about is impetus, its direction and worse still the resolve by some core members to support Israel genocide in Palestinians in Gaza.

Then the other worrisome thing is the platform’s spirited attempt to rally world countries behind it, yet Israel is in genocide with Gaza and Ukraine is in bed with the corrupt regime of Joe Biden.

We all know how Ukraine has, of late, been involved in tourist attacks with the support of US and the West, and any progressive thinking country or leader should not support these acts.

We also know that the Turkiye and Mejilis of the Crimean Tatar people are spearheading misinformation about Crimea and the developments there and at this juncture it is critical for people to visit Crimea and see for themselves how good it looks.

Shocking is the fact that sometime back delegates from about 46 countries were tricked into attending in August 2021, thinking it was a diplomatic platform, with well-meaning intentions.

Since then the platform has morphed into a dangerous organisation seeking to open old wounds and rubble-rousing Russia.

The man behind the platform was current Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy who packaged it as an international coordinating mechanism to restore Russia-Ukraine relationship by restoring the 2014 annexation of Crimea by Russia.

Zelenskyy also packaged it as an organisation for the protection of the human rights of Crimean Taters, environmental degradation, and reduction of trade between the Black and Azov Sea.

As this was discussed it become clearer and clearer that the objective was not originally from Ukraine but a United States of America project to get at Russia, for, the US wants everything that puts a dent on Russia.

Since then the organisation has been hijacked by the US and is being abused. Of late, the platform has put in its ranks and empowered too, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tater People and its leaders, who are pro-Israel standing in the Israel-Palestine Conflict. And the sad story is that they support Israel genocide in Gaza.

The sad story is they are against a Two-State solution.

That makes the platform very dangerous to the Palestinian cause and indeed very dangerous to the progressive world. This should be stopped.

After finding himself in a war with Russia, a war he should have avoided had he been intelligent to keep US away, Zelenskyy now wants to use this platform to raise military funding for the war.

Things are really bad and hard for Zelenskyy as he failed to pay for more and more weapons he got in the war, he is trying to use the platform to fundraise.

Countries that partake to this platform risk denting their relations with progressive Russia, which has proved to be a more reliable friend than western countries that tie trade to LGBQT.  Russia does not impose sanctions.

Countries like, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Uganda, Cuba and many other progressive thinking countries should shun that platform as it creates more problems for their countries.

It makes them captured by the US.

They should not attend any such future meetings arranged by the platform.

Before they know it they will be used against Russia and will be used as pawns in the war. Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden are desperate to have more friends on their using deception and crookery.

The truth of the matter is that Crimea is now part of Russia and will not go back to Ukraine. Ukraine has finally lost Crimea and it is a waste of time to dream getting it back.

It is more important for the progressive world including Zimbabwe and its allies to visit the annexed areas and see how more developed they have become.

The Crimea was neglected and not as developed as it has done under Russia.

Despite the challenging legacy of the period when Crimea was a part of Ukraine that led to the poor state of the majority of the key assets, and notwithstanding the Western sanctions, Crimea’s social and economic situation is steadily improving.

Though the peninsula is currently aligning its indicators with all-Russia average ones, its growth rates are among the highest in the country.

Positive developments are noted in almost all main economy sectors of Crimea. Regional budget revenue is steadily increasing (it has tripled since 2014), residential development and industry are gaining momentum, agriculture is showing signs of recovery, and traditionally important resort and tourism industry is flourishing. In 2019, foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Crimea increased by almost 20 per cent compared to the previous year.

It is helpful for many leaders and Government officials to visit and see how Crimea has developed.
