Beach volleyball team’s Olympic dream dies

they failed to travel to Rabat, Morocco for the final qualifying round last week.
The qualifiers were set for the whole of last week and the men’s team had been expected to battle it out against Morocco, Rwanda, Gabon and Algeria in Pool Two.

There was an opportunity for the women’s team, too, as they had been pencilled in to play Congo Brazzaville, Ghana, Morocco and Rwanda in Pool Two. The top two teams in each pool qualified for the Continental Cup to be held next year with the winners from that competition earning a ticket to take part in the Olympic Games next year.

However, the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association failed to raise enough funds for the trip. National team coach, Robert Njerere, said their failure to go to Morocco meant they were out of contention for a place at the Olympic Games.
“We have blown away our chance of qualifying for the Olympic Games next year. It means we still have a long way to go,” said Njerere.
