Their display of wedding gowns in white lace with silver detailing got them the highest marks from the panel of three judges. The judges were Thabani Sibanda, from Archer Clothing, Thabani Ndiweni a model from AM Modelling agency and Shamiso Samungoe.
The show was held for local clothing boutiques to compete against each other showcasing their various collections.
The themes for the show were Winter Fashion, Evening Wear, Bridal Wear, Casual, Party Dresses, Office and Ethnic Wear. Each boutique was required to enter five models each and showcase two of the themed collections.
However, only three clothing boutiques entered the show. The other two were Shares Hair Salon who came second and Lisa’s Fashions who came third.
The show was attended by a sizeable crowd at Connect Café, 3rd Floor Hand & Sly Building.
Speaking after the show an elated Primrose Ncube, owner of the bridal shop, said the win was a boost for her. She said she started her business two months ago and as she now knew she was in the right business.
“This is a noble idea and it promotes us as small businesses. I hope such competitions are going to continue in future. As of how I won I am speechless,” said Ncube.
Organiser of the event Luyanda’s Fashion, project coordinator, Precious Mahlangu said this was part of efforts to uplift small businesses in town.
She said although the turnout was disappointing the competition was a step in the right direction.
“I thought there were more people that would attend the show but all in all it was a success as we wanted to showcase and promote the small businesses in the city. It was a blessing in disguise that the known big names in fashion did not come,” said Mahlangu.
For their efforts, Beauty Designs walked away with a winner’s shield and an advertising contract.
