FORMER Miss Zimbabwe Bongani Dhlakama last week graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies at the Midlands State University. Dhlakama, who was part of the 2,612 graduates that were capped by President Mugabe in Gweru last Thursday, also said she would be getting married next year.

“I’m naturally happy that I graduated with a degree. It took four long years but it was worth it. After the long hours of studying and assignments, it’s a great feeling. I was also happy that my fiancé also graduated in November,” said Dhlakama.

She said her graduation did not mean this was the end of her studies.

“I want to get a PHD and reach the pinnacle of my studies and also inspire young girls and show them that they can do it. The next stage of my academia is to pursue a Masters degree in development studies or international relations. I’ll apply to do that at Nust next year,” said Dhlakama.

The 2012 beauty queen’s graduation follows her fiancé Bongani Conrad Ndlovu’s attainment of an Executive Masters in Business Management degree at the National University of Science and Technology.

Dhlakama said wedding bells were around the corner as her namesake, who she has been dating for the past one and a half years, had already been introduced to her aunt as per tradition.

“About marriage, my fiancé has been introduced to my aunt. The next stage is to pay lobola. This has been pencilled for February next year. I can’t reveal much about it but I’m also excited,” said Dhlakama.

Her fiancé said: “I think it’s time for us to cement the relationship. Next year I’ll pay lobola for her and then shortly afterwards set a wedding date.”
