SHE has proven to be an example of the adage, “like daughter, like mother”. Following in the footsteps of her mother Bekezela “Becky” Dube, a renowned South Africa-based casting agent who runs Becky Casting Agency, Adanna Ntombikayise Estelle Akachukwu is shining in the South African acting industry.

The seven-year-old was recently profiled by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s Kids News where she was labelled as a hero kid.

She has appeared on Bettina Wethu season one as Noma a homeless girl, DStv Africa adverts, an advert for Jumia Food from Ivory Coast, and a Woods advert among others.

Adanna was born in South Africa to Becky who is a Zimbabwean while her father is Nigerian.

Speaking from her South African base, Adanna said her role model has been her mother who has made strides in the South African industry by working with productions like DiepCity and Muvhango among many others.

“My inspiration to be an actress comes from my mother who has the know-how of the industry. She’s helped me a lot in growing my brand. As a kid, the industry is no child’s play and I’ve had ups and downs from losing auditions.

“It’s not easy winning auditions, but I’ve managed to overcome that by working very hard,” said Adanna.

She said growing up in a family of acting, she will stick to that for now before she follows her passion in medicine.

“I’m very passionate about acting as I’ve been doing short skits for years. I’d interfere every time my mother would be conducting casting. My dream career though is being a medical doctor and I hope that I’ll manage to pursue this.

“To balance the two passions, I also hope to get acting roles aligned to the medical fraternity,” said the Grade two pupil at Saint Andrews Girls School in South Africa.

Adanna said she wishes to land international accolades in the future as she is set to launch her range of beauty products next month.

“I’ll be launching my beauty products on October 28 and the range is named Adanna’s Manoe. The products include oils, bath salts, perfume, lotion and soap,” she said. @mthabisi_mthire
