TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant NetOne has pledged to support the creative sector and mainly, people living with Albinism.

NetOne was the main sponsor at the recently held Mr and Miss Albinism fourth edition that was held in the capital which saw Bulawayo beauty Angie Dube being crowned Miss Albinism 2022 while Lordwin Rimire was named Mr Albinism Zimbabwe King.

Speaking at the pageant on behalf of chief executive officer engineer Raphael Mushanawani, NetOne head of marketing and PR Roselyn Chisveto said they are glad to have partnered with all Albino Charity Foundations in Zimbabwe to celebrate and enjoy the Mr and Miss Albinism pageant. The pageant was held under #United in Making Our Voice heard and #Inclusion4equility.

“As NetOne under our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, we have supported different vulnerable and disadvantaged groups including those living with albinism in communities we operate from around the country.

“NetOne through its management will continue to support people living with albinism and today, we have been privileged to assist in making this event a success. We would like to assure the community that NetOne seeks to partake in this initiative to the various regions across the country as it is our mandate to ensure that we leave no place and no one behind NDS1,” said Chisveto.

She said Albinism is not a curse and as such they collaborated in hosting the Mr and Miss Albinism annual show, a celebration to create awareness, and fight discrimination, stigma and marginalisation against those living with albinism.

“Albinism is a rare condition, a genetically inherited difference that occurs at birth. It is non-contagious and is caused by a lack of pigmentation in the skin, hair, and eyes causing a lack of defence to sunlight and bright light.

“As NetOne, we celebrate all people living with albinism all over the world on their special day. We share our opinion that people with albinism should enjoy the full privileges of all human rights and we implore other corporates and stakeholders to render their support as well.

“We believe the journey does not end here as there is more that needs to be done in ensuring that communities are educated to increase awareness so as to help alleviate, uphold and protect the rights of people living with albinism,” she said.
