Beef prices fall

butcheries and meat processing companies in Chinhoyi have reduced beef prices, which had nearly doubled in recent weeks. One of the country’s biggest retail outlets, Texas Meats, is now charging $4,60 per kilogramme for economy beef from $5,70 last week. A snap survey carried out by The Herald on Monday revealed that butcheries in Gadzema and Cold Stream, which were charging more than $9 per kg, had also reduced prices to around $6 per kg.

But big retailers such as OK and TM supermarkets still maintained their original prices ranging from $8 to $9 per kg. A restaurant owner, Mr Peter Dube, cheered the new meat prices, saying this will positively impact on his business.
