POLICE in Mamina are hunting for a murder suspect who allegedly fatally struck his drinking partner with a wooden log following a misunderstanding.

Simbarashe Bimha of Madzamba Village, under Chief Murambwa in Mamina, is being sought in connection with the murder of Knowledge Kwenda (44) on May 3, 2025.

Mashonaland West Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera said circumstances surrounding the incident are that Kwenda, who was from the same village as Bimha, left his home and proceeded to Chizinga Business Centre, Mamina.

“While at the business centre, the two started drinking beer together. The two had a misunderstanding when Bimha refused to buy beer,” he said.

“Bimha slapped Kwenda once on the face. This did not go well with Kwenda, who left the business centre and went home.”

The suspect later followed the deceased in anger, took a wooden stick from a mopane tree and struck him all over his body, leaving him unconscious in Musinambi River.

The body was found the following day by Amon Masango (31) from Madza Village, who made a report at ZRP Mamina.

Police attended the scene and observed that the body had bruises all over before conveying it to St. Michael’s Hospital for post-mortem.

Insp Kohwera said police were concerned with the surge in murder cases, most of which are a result of petty issues.

“People must value the sanctity of life and avoid resorting to violence when they encounter misunderstandings,” he said.

He called for anyone with information about the suspect to report at any nearest police station.
