A beer drinking spree turned tragic for a 55-year-old Nyanga man after he died following a fight with his drinking mate.

Acting Manicaland Provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said police are still investigating the murder case which occurred in Nyatate Village, Nyanga.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said on March 24, Jim Chimbuya of Toronga Village was drinking beer at Chidokohore Bar when he got into a misunderstanding with his relative, Obvious Ngirazi.

The two drunk men fought over the misunderstanding as other imbibers watched.

“As they fought, Chimbuya fell to the ground and after that, they both left for their respective homes. When he got home, Chimbuya told his 13-year-old grandson that he had been assaulted by Ngirazi.

“On March 25, he went back to Chidokohori Bar for another drinking spree. However, when he left the bar, he did not get back home this time around,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

On March 26, Chimbuya’s family was alerted by his grandson that he had not come back home the previous day, although he had reportedly left the bar.

A search team found him lying unconscious by the roadside.

“Chimbuya’s right cheek was swollen. They rushed him to Nyatate Clinic where he was immediately referred to Nyanga District Hospital,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

Chimbuya died upon admission and his body was referred for post mortem.

A police report was made and Ngirazi was immediately arrested.
Ngirazi is facing murder charges and is awaiting trial.
