Beitbridge businessman’s case postponed

Authority (Zimra) official from the Anti-Smuggling Unit has been further postponed to January 17 next year
The officials wanted to search for suspected smuggled goods at Mufokozane’s premises in the industrial sites when the attack took place.
Mufokozana is now facing a charge of obstructing a public official while his other accomplices are charged with threatening to assault Tafadzwa Charamba.
It is alleged that on October 29 the complainant, Charamba, who is attached to the Zimra Compliance and Enforcement Section, got a tip off that Mufokozana was keeping smuggled antics and furniture at his warehouse in the border town.
He teamed up with the police and security guards from National Eye Security Company and drove to the place.
National Eye Security provides security to Zimra in Beitbridge. Charamba entered the premises and an argument ensued with some workers over his intention to conduct a search in the warehouse.
Mufokozana later arrived at the premises in the company of two other people.
The trio reportedly teamed up and assaulted Charamba accusing him of being big headed.
The same Zimra official and police in Beitbridge recently seized 1 044 boxes of export quality cigarettes worth thousands of dollars from Mufokozana’s young brother Munyaradzi.
Munyaradzi has since been fined US$5 000 for contravening a section of the Customs and Excise Act (unlawful possession of goods liable to excise duty).
Some unarmed police officers are reported to have fled from the scene leaving the complainant at the mercy of Mufokozana and his associates.
Charamba is reported to have injured his knees and had a swollen face after the attack.
He was saved from further assault by armed members of the police support unit who in turn arrested Mufokozana and his associates.
