Beitbridge Municipality is calling on investors to partner in the transformation of the Limpopo Riverfront into a major tourism hub, unlocking the untapped economic and cultural potential of the border town.

Globally, riverfront development has been credited with revitalising local economies, creating employment, and positioning towns as competitive tourist destinations.

Beitbridge, strategically located at Zimbabwe’s busiest port of entry, is eyeing a similar transformation by leveraging its rich natural and cultural heritage.

The local authority is currently exhibiting at the ongoing Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo in Mutare, where it is showcasing a portfolio of unexplored tourism assets.

Speaking to Zimpapers Business Hub, Beitbridge Municipality’s public relations and development officer, Mr Ranial Ndou, said the town is ready to unlock value along the Limpopo corridor.

“We are joining others in promoting and marketing tourism opportunities,” he said.

“We are endowed with a lot of opportunities, especially along the Limpopo River, where we are aiming to develop the Limpopo front. Investors can come in and set up various activities that include water body activities.

“One can also venture into crocodile farming and also develop chalets,” said Ndou.

Beitbridge’s tourism proposition offers a rare blend of agriculture, historical landmarks, diverse wildlife ecosystems, vibrant cultures, and a resurgent beef industry — elements that the Municipality believes can reposition the town as a premier destination for both domestic and international tourists.

The Municipality is actively courting public-private partnerships (PPPs) to spearhead the development, with feasibility studies already underway for some of the targeted sites.

Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry in partnership with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), the annual Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi Expo has evolved into Africa’s premier tourism marketplace.

The event brings together local and international tourism players to showcase the continent’s rich travel offerings while facilitating robust business engagement.
