A MAN from Beitbridge has been left with a swollen right eye after he was allegedly struck with an empty beer bottle by an 18-year-old man in a dispute over an undisclosed issue.

In a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe on their twitter page, they indicated that the suspect was nabbed for assault.

Arnold Muleya appeared before a Beitbridge magistrate facing a charge of assault. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to 22 August for trial.

State allegations against Muleya are that on 12 August 2024 at around 10pm, Muleya and the victim were at a bottle store when the misunderstanding arose.

The altercation escalated and Muleya allegedly struck the victim with an empty beer bottle on the right eye and fled the scene.  The victim reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe urged the public to resolve their differences without using violence.

“We encourage members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation,” read their statement.
