A 35-year-old security guard employed by Beitbridge Municipality has been fined USD300 for insulting President Mnangagwa in a short video that went viral on social media.
Ezekiel Chiradza, who was represented by Mr Patrick Tererai, denied the charges but was convicted following a full trial.
He had been charged with undermining the authority of the President.
Beitbridge regional magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa slapped Chiradza with a six-month jail term with an option of paying a USD300 fine.
Prosecuting Mr Willbrought Muleya said sometime last year, the accused generated a video with a message that insulted the President and the introduction of the ZWG currency.
He then circulated the video on social media platforms and was reported by community members in one of the WhatsApp chat groups.
He was then arrested and it was confirmed that he was the one who had generated the video.
