Beitbridge rural council unveils 400 stands

centre in a bid to address accommodation woes in the border town, an official has said.
Lutumba business centre is 20km north of Beitbridge town.
Mr Peter Ncube said this while appraising the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Cde Mike Bimha on the challenges agents manning the border post were facing.
The deputy minister was in the border town last Thursday on a familiarisation visit.
Mr Ncube said the servicing of the stands was nearing completion adding that they were only left with setting up the water reticulation systems.
“We have started developing 400 residential stands at Lutumba business centre as we move towards offloading some of the accommodation challenges the town is facing.
“We are calling on all interested parties to join our housing waiting list before we allocate the residential stands.
“At the moment we have done all the necessary civil works and are awaiting the completion of the water reticulation system.
“In our strategic plan we have made it a priority that we drill 15 more boreholes in the district and most of them will be at the new site for residential stands. Accommodation shortage is a perennial issue around this time and hence we need to find alternative ways of easing the problem. We are also calling for a private/public partnership and multi-sectoral approach towards dealing with some of the challenges we are facing as a district,” he said.
The development comes as the town council is in the midst of servicing 2000 residential stands, which will be made available to the residents in the instant future.
