Beitbridge sides dominate Central League

But the big movers were Gwanda-based Vumbachikwe who stormed into the top four for the first time this season.

The three teams were the only sides to post outright victories in a weekend characterised by stalemates.

Log leaders, Tripple B edged Air Stars 2-1 at Dulibadzimu while neighbours FC Strikers clinched an important 2-0 win away to Tongogara courtesy of a Douglas Asipo first half brace to maintain pressure on Tshintsha Magiya.

Vumbachikwe ran riot at Ascot dismantling a hapless MSU 6-1 with goals coming from hattrick hero Precious Ndlovu before Shelton Ndlovu, Tatenda Ngwenya and last year’s Golden Boot runner-up Admire Hofisi chipped in with a goal apiece.

The students found their consolation goal through Patrick Bwoni.

The win saw Vumbachikwe climbing to fourth position a point behind airmen Chapungu who were held to a 1-1 draw away to Chrome Stars.

The Gwanda-based team has a chance to go to third position if they beat Chrome Stars at Forbes and Thompson tomorrow.

The gold miners coach Christopher Ndiweni could not commit himself on championship chances.

“Currently, we are taking each game as it comes and we will talk about the championship after we play FC Strikers next week,” Ndiweni said.

New Zimsteel coach Robson Sibanda who assumed the reins after the club parted ways with Godfrey Tamirepi after a string of draws opened his account with a 1-1 draw against neighbours Silo United.

The result confirmed the steelmakers as the league’s draw specialists having drawn six matches in nine outings they have played so far this season.
