Loveness Mpofu in Plumtree
A lucky Beitbridge woman went away with a brand new Mercedes Benz C Class in the Baker’s Inn Buy and Win Promotion draw for Matabeleland South Province that was held in Plumtree Town yesterday.
The winner, Ms Portia Zhou was, however, not present to receive her sleek wheels but expressed great joy over the phone when told that she was the winner of the grand prize.
Other lucky winners went away with prizes comprising deep freezers, LED TVs, solar geysers, gas stoves and cylinders as well as school fees vouchers.
“I’m very excited because I didn’t expect to win a car. This is the first time that I would be driving a car and I’m very grateful to Baker’s Inn. I will continue buying their bread,” she said.
Baker’s Inn financial director Mr Mandla Nkosi said he was quite impressed with the attendance.
“We are quite excited because the attendance was good. I was more impressed by the huge turnout of children and women because they are the ones who buy bread more. So, if we get them young, it’s to our advantage because they are our target market,” he said.
“Generally if you look at our numbers, we get more volumes from Matabeleland South Province. This is because it has towns such as Gwanda and Beitbridge which are much bigger than Hwange and Victoria Falls in Matabeleland North.”
Baker’s Inn general manager southern region Mr Felix Vazhure said they were very happy with the promotion that had seen their bread being the province’s bread. He said the promotions have boosted their sales by more than 20 percent.
“These promotions really give us a boost in terms of our sales. We have grown by 22 percent which is huge progress. Of course, when the promotion ends we expect sales to drop by five percent, but overall we have moved forward,” he said.
Last year, the grand prize in Matabeleland South was won by Natasha Moyo, a 17-year-old girl from Gwanda District.
Speaking during the draw, Natasha said winning a car at a tender age was a life changing moment for her, as it pushed her to take big steps such as getting a driver’s licence. She encouraged people to grab such opportunities, saying that winning is a possibility for anyone.
The prizes were won under three main categories which were Vendors and Tuckshops, General Trade and Chain Stores. Chagwiza Kiosk and OK Gwanda shined in their categories as they won in three consecutive rounds. -@lvydvy1
