FORMER Highlanders skipper and assistant coach Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu reportedly turned down a job offer from Chicken Inn, raising speculation that he might bounce back in some capacity at the Bulawayo giants. Although the former national team defender professed ignorance on the reported job offer, highly placed sources confirmed that Chicken Inn coach Joe Antipas had recommended Ndlovu to the club executive but the offer was turned down.
“Super was approached on the recommendations of Antipas but he refused without giving any reasons and the feeling was that probably his childhood club, Highlanders, still has plans for him,” said the source.
Ndlovu, whose contract with the Bulawayo giants was not renewed upon expiry on December 31 last year, has been part of the Highlanders think-tank since the start of their 2014 preparations with the official word being that he was assisting in the hand-over take-over process since head coach Kelvin Kaindu was still in Zambia.
“I am hearing that from you,” said Ndlovu when asked about the job refusal reports.
He said at the moment he had no immediate plans on his future.
“As we are speaking I am in Kezi, my rural home,” he said.
Chicken Inn secretary-general Tawengwa Hara said no formal approach was made to Ndlovu but confirmed that Antipas had recommended him.
Following the snub by Ndlovu, the Gamecocks interviewed Antipas’ former assistant at Motor Action Prince Matore.
“I can confirm that Matore was interviewed for the assistant coach position but at the moment nothing has been finalised.
“Sikhumbuzo “China” Banda is still our assistant and even if we are to have a new man, we will have the first and second assistant coaches just like we used to have during the late Adam Ndlovu’s time,” said Hara, a respected city lawyer.
