GOLF sensation Dannile Bekker won the Junior Africa Challenge at Zebula Golf Estate in South Africa last Friday.
The 11-year-old first participated in the tournament in 2013 where she came second.
Last year Bekker trailed eventual winner Senayah Moodliar of South Africa by six shots.
Her mother, Ilonka Bekker, said her daughter had a goal to win the event this year.
“When she came second last year Danielle made it her goal to come back and win the tournament in 2014.
“This year she shot 78, 80 and 78 over the three rounds to win by 22 strokes.
“Danielle also had the best scores for any girl in the tournament.
“And several coaches present at the tournament commented on the drastic improvement in Danielle’s game from last year as well as her mental resolve to take the lead in a tournament on the first day and hold it to the last day.
“SABC followed Danielle around five holes on the last day as well as interviewing her after her win. She was subsequently chosen to play in the Ryder Cup-style tournament where the ‘Elephants’ took on the ‘Cheetahs.’
“She won her match (which was strokeplay) by nine strokes but her team lost to the Elephants by only half a point,” Bekker said.
Danielle’s handicap has dropped further to 11 and she now looks forward to the Malaysian World Championship event on December 8.
