SHOPPERS who won cars in last month’s Bellevue Spar Supermarket grand challenge are still basking in the glory of their luck.
Chronicle caught up with the winners and they expressed gratitude to Bellevue Spar for the promotion and said their lives have improved.
Mr Thulani Magagula, a Bulawayo City Council parks officer, praised the supermarket saying what it was doing was an example of giving back to the community.
He said winning the car encouraged him and his family to continue shopping at Bellevue Spar outlets dotted around the city.
“My wife is a teacher at Inkanyezi Primary School in New Lobengula and after realising the challenges she faces with the children I made plans to buy her a car.
“I was preparing to apply for a bank loan when I won the car,” said Mr Magagula.
“I am now a loyal customer of Spar and even if I want to buy the smallest thing I go to Spar.”
Mr Lambart Murebwa, a Lobels Bread general worker who won a Toyota Raul, said after winning the car he was able to get to work earlier and do other things for his family.
“Winning the car encourages me to continue shopping at Spar.
“I use the car when I am going to work and church because it reminds me of how blessed I am to have won it. The car enables me to do things that I was finding difficult to do before because I was not mobile,” said Mr Murebwa.
In separate interviews, two vendors Ms Patricia Masindi and Ms Nelly Chisale said winning cars had improved the way they do business.
Ms Chisale said she uses the car when she goes to buy goods for resale at the market while Ms Masindi said she uses her car to transport goods to her flea market stand near Mountainview Shopping Centre in Lobengula West.
Another winner, Mr Ndlovu, said he was now a regular shopper at Spar.
Ms Noma Ndlovu said she was using the car for family business.
Mr Walter Makurane, a teacher at Lochview Primary School, said he sold the car to his uncle.
The Bellevue Spar grand challenge draw is an annual event where customers get a chance to win cars and other prizes that include bicycles, fridges and stoves.
For a customer to qualify for the draw, he or she must buy goods worth $5 and above.
