Curtworth Masango in Kwekwe
FORMER Manchester City and Warriors forward Benjani Mwaruwari was impressed by Chahwanda Stadium after a tour over the weekend.
Chahwanda Stadium, situated in Kwekwe, is at the tail end of its construction.
Financed by businessman and Hardrock owner Shepherd Chahwanda, the stadium will be a big answer to the country’s stadium crisis. It has already garnered significant praise from football authorities, including ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi. “This is what we are missing in this country,” said Mwaruwari.
“We are struggling at the moment. We don’t even play our own games at home, which is a challenge for us as a nation.
“I think this is one of the best stadiums so far in Zimbabwe, and the standards are impressive. If we have things like this, others will follow.”
Upon completion, Chahwanda Stadium will become the new home for the recently promoted Premier Soccer League side, Hardrock.
More importantly, it stands as a powerful, private-sector answer to the country’s push for more CAF-approved stadiums.
