Benza’s blueprint: A new era for Zimbabwean Football?

Online Reporter

As the Zimbabwean football community gears up for the ZIFA board elections on January 25, one candidate is generating buzz with his bold vision for the sport’s future: Tafadzwa Benza.

A seasoned football administrator with a proven track record, Benza is on a mission to revolutionise the way Zimbabwean football operates. His mantra? Financial independence, sustainability, and a commitment to developing homegrown talent.

“We need to break free from the cycle of reliance on handouts and donations,” Benza told B Metro Online.

“Our clubs and academies must become self-sustaining, and that means investing in our own infrastructure and talent development programs.”

Benza’s blueprint for success is rooted in his experience with the Herentals model, which has already shown promising results. By focusing on youth development and creating a pipeline of talented players, Benza believes Zimbabwean football can become a major player on the African stage.

“The French model is a great example of what can be achieved with the right investment in youth development,” Benza said.

“We have the talent, the passion, and the dedication. Now we need to put the structures in place to support our young players and help them reach their full potential.”

So what does Benza’s vision mean for the future of Zimbabwean football?

Benza wants to see more resources poured into grassroots programs, coaching, and infrastructure. By developing homegrown talent and reducing reliance on foreign players, Benza believes Zimbabwean clubs can become more financially stable.

With a stronger focus on youth development and talent identification, Benza is confident that Zimbabwean teams can compete with the best in Africa.

It’s a bold vision, but Benza is undaunted.

“We have the talent, the passion, and the dedication,” he said.

“Now it’s time to put the structures in place to support our young players and help them reach their full potential. The future of Zimbabwean football is bright, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
