Best Brew Five-A-Side League kicks off

THE recently launched Five-A-Side football tournament, named The Best Brew League, will kick off in Rustenburg, South Africa on Friday 6 July.

Sponsored by Castle Lager, the Best Brew League, will feature regular people from countries across the Sadc region and winners in the respective countries will be rewarded with an opportunity to grace the ongoing Cosafa Castle Cup to compete for the grand prize of being crowned BBL champions.

The league is set to kick-start a series of regional events culminating in the finals to take place at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg and the Moruleng Stadium.

The tournament, which is part of the Cosafa Castle Cup, reportedly aims to deepen consumer participation in sport and to contribute to football development initiatives in the Southern African region.

Former football players Tinashe a�?Fathera�? Nengomasha, Dipsy Selolwane, Brian Baloyi, Siza Dlamini, Lehlohonolo Seema and Rotson Kilambe were announced as official ambassadors of the Best Brew League.

For Zimbabwea��s prestigious schools tournament we reported in April that Copa Coca-Cola has reaffirmed its position as the countrya��s leading football development competition by changing its flagship format from boysa�� Under-16 to Under-15 in efforts to allow participants to compete in the Five-A-Side World Cup.

From this yeara��s edition, which starts next month, journalists charged with selecting the tournamenta��s Dream Team will also recommend a player to represent the country at the World Cup.

Vee Chibanda, the Coca-Cola activation manager, said her company takes pride in partnering Zifa by taking a giant stride to market and take the lead in promoting Five-A-Side soccer.

Earlier on this month, a week- long Zifa Fustal Five-A-Side Level One course for coaches, administrators and referees was held in Hwange.

The country also boasts of a vibrant Southern Region Five-A-Side League that is chaired by Philani Banda.

The league comprises ten teams that include Fox, Black Stars, Cash Money, Bulawayo Artists, Flying Stars, Nust, Cowdray Park, Amabhubesi and Street Set.
