Nigeria’s biggest reality television spectacle has officially returned, with the curtains rising on the 11th season of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) as 24 carefully selected contestants entered Biggie’s House on Sunday, setting the stage for what promises to be 10 weeks of intrigue, competition, alliances and unforgettable entertainment.
Hosted by the ever-charismatic Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the premiere marked the beginning of another chapter for one of Africa’s most influential reality television franchises. This year’s edition, themed “Show ya sef”, challenges contestants to unapologetically showcase their personalities, talents and strategies as they battle for a record-breaking ₦160 million (approx. US$117 000) grand prize and the coveted BBNaija Season 11 crown.
The launch show delivered the glitz and glamour synonymous with the franchise, opening with an energetic performance by Nigerian rapper Falz before the introduction of the contestants. Rapper Ycee later brought the curtain down on the premiere with a thrilling performance after all the housemates had been unveiled.
The 24 contestants, evenly split between 12 women and 12 men, represent diverse professions, age groups and regions across Nigeria, ensuring a fascinating blend of personalities inside Biggie’s House.
Among the female housemates is Bells (Isabella Imoh), a 22-year-old student from Akwa-Ibom who describes herself as a strategic thinker with a calculative approach to life. An avid reader who enjoys bowling and cycling, she believes her vibrant personality will make her a standout contestant.
From Imo comes Kamsy (Kamsy Uzoma), a 24-year-old entrepreneur and event planner who considers herself emotionally expressive yet resilient. She believes her acting abilities could become one of her strongest assets during the competition.
Broadcasting experience enters the house through Sheba (Faith Gamde), a 32-year-old broadcaster from Plateau renowned for her remarkable voice imitation skills and ability to mimic animal sounds. While admitting she prefers a small circle of friends, she says those close to her often receive an overwhelming amount of affection.
Entrepreneur Flora Egbedi, 30, from Delta State, is already promising drama and entertainment. Owner of beauty, bridal and content creation businesses, Flora describes herself as outspoken, brutally honest and confident—traits likely to generate memorable moments throughout the season.
Music also finds representation through Goddessa (Lovette Okechukwu), a 32-year-old musician from Abia State whose career highlight so far has been organising her own concert. She hopes the platform will further showcase her talent and entertaining personality.
Oyin (Oyindamola Oshikoya), a 22-year-old sales entrepreneur from Ogun State, believes audiences will naturally connect with her life story. Although she admits to being blunt, she prides herself on accurately reading people’s intentions.
Photography and fashion merge in Bluethopia (Usaku Bantai), a 22-year-old photographer, model and student from Adamawa who says authenticity, creativity and talent define her approach to the competition.
Representing Anambra are Nomy (Whitney Chukwu), a 27-year-old fashion entrepreneur known for her intuition and people-reading abilities, and Neche (Chinaecherem Maduagwu), a 25-year-old lawyer and entrepreneur who has fulfilled a long-held ambition of becoming a BBNaija contestant after years of following the programme as a fan.
Lagos student Temi Nkem (Temitope Chigbue), 21, describes herself as bold and impossible to ignore, while Osun-born Abi (Abisola Ayoola), a 25-year-old model and chef who speaks Italian almost fluently, believes her cheerful personality and confidence make her a perfect fit for the show.
Completing the female lineup is Mercedes (Ijeoma Emi), a 28-year-old performance artist and massage therapist from Delta who promises to deliver authenticity, vulnerability and unforgettable moments.
The male contestants are equally diverse in background and ambition.
Fashion model Araga (Oluwaseyifunmi Sosanya), 29, from Ogun hopes the reality show will finally help him step out of his shell, while Barry (Muudumbari Pop-Yornwin), a 25-year-old fashion designer, graphic designer and trained civil engineer, hopes to leave an unforgettable impression despite admitting to being stubborn when hurt.
Lagos-based author and entrepreneur Tram (Joshua Alekewumu), 24, enters the house convinced the world deserves to experience what he calls his “gem” of a personality. An enthusiastic boxer and lifelong learner, he is currently engaged.
Representing Kogi is Gerard (Gerard Adebija), a 23-year-old actor, presenter, radio host and content creator who considers himself a lone wolf but hopes to forge meaningful relationships inside the house.
At 33, Ricky (Patrick Jumbo) from Rivers is among the oldest contestants. A writer and filmmaker, he proudly calls himself “the annoying entertainer” and believes his outspoken personality makes him an ideal reality television participant.
Healthcare and entertainment intersect in Chimsom Chuka (Chimsom Chuka-Okoli), a 26-year-old pharmacist and actor from Anambra who says he is entering the house ready to enjoy every moment despite already being in a relationship.
Technology is represented by Aikou (Amyr Yousufzai), a 25-year-old backend developer from Abuja who combines coding with a passion for writing. He admits his quiet and emotionless demeanour sometimes creates misunderstandings but believes he possesses remarkable patience.
Abia-born entrepreneur Cassi (Ezenwoke Nwosu), 26, arrives with artistic flair, listing drawing, painting and chiropractic therapy among his hidden talents while acknowledging that his highly organised nature can occasionally irritate others.
Creative director and model Martins (Martins Iyeh), 29, from Kogi claims mind-reading as his hidden talent and jokes that his endless curiosity often frustrates those around him.
Entertainment industry professional Sultex (Sultan Aregbe-Obanikoro), a 24-year-old dancer, choreographer, casting director and filmmaker from Lagos, sees BBNaija as the perfect platform to elevate his already growing career.
Benue’s Keivo (Victor Ikpe), 27, balances life as a front-end web developer with artistic pursuits such as painting and drawing. Completing a Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management remains one of his proudest achievements.
Completing the male lineup is Yusuf (Yusuf Muhammad-Awal), a 27-year-old actor from Kogi who hopes the programme will provide the platform needed to tell his story while showcasing his confidence, love for reading and boxing.
Beyond the entertainment, Big Brother Naija continues to demonstrate its commercial strength. This year’s edition is headlined by betting company betPawa, with Guinness returning as Gold Sponsor and Minimie joining as Associate Sponsor, highlighting sustained corporate confidence in the programme’s enormous reach across Africa.
Over the next 10 weeks, viewers can expect shifting alliances, dramatic confrontations, strategic gameplay, emotional highs and lows, as well as the signature tasks, nominations and live evictions that have made the reality show one of the continent’s most-watched television productions.
The eventual winner will succeed Imisioluwa “Imisi” Ayanwale, who captured last season’s title and walked away with a ₦150 million prize package. With an even larger reward now on offer and a house filled with contestants boasting confidence, ambition and diverse talents, Season 11 is already shaping up to be another fiercely contested race for reality television glory.
