Best of both worlds

in Harare yesterday.
Revellers will be spoilt for choice as three maestros who are on top of the music game in their respective genres – Oliver Mtukudzi, Suluman Chimbetu and Winky D – are joined by upcoming “hot property” Munya

Mataruse to rock the crowd that will descend on the City Sports Centre tonight.
The crowd will no doubt rock and sway like no other when they join Tuku, Bigiman, Sulu for a night of musical bliss and dance among friends and Harare socialites.

Mtukudzi, still basking in one of his finest moments ever, following the conferment of an ambassadorial role on him by Unicef, will no doubt be out to do what he knows best.
The Katekwe exponent is also expected to come to the show with his batteries highly charged to dish out his catalogue of hit songs taken off his two new albums, one of which was launched in South Africa recently.

Sulu, or simply Mwana Wedangwe, is another sure-fire artiste, who without doubt, will mesmerise music lovers with his enthralling music as well as energy-sapping dances, backed by his Orchestra Dendera Kings outfit.
Sulu – who has a hit album “Non-Stop” to his name, will also take revellers down memory lane with a string of golden oldies by his late father Simon Chimbetu.

If you thought dancehall or ragga music would not make it to a jazz event, then you should look out for Winky D’s delivery.
The artiste, who is fresh from his tour of Malaysia, is on top of the world and will leave no stone unturned in making sure that he lives up to his title of “Ninja President”.

Mataruse, on the other hand, is gradually joining the ranks of the music gurus in Zimbabwe.
The young artiste honed his talent at Tuku’s Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton and tonight, he joins his master on stage and the young man will be out to prove to all and sundry that he is no pushover.

Show organiser Josh Hozheri said the City Sports Centre gig was meant to provide variety to music fans, who have all been psyched up for a weekend of jazz.
“The Winter Jazz Festival kicked off yesterday, and we want to spoil our revellers, while thanking them for good patronage throughout the years.

“There are times when we thought the festival was sinking but it is actually the opposite. We continue to get support from our fans, musicians and the corporate world who now appreciate our efforts of bringing value entertainment to the people,” he said.
