AMBITIOUS snooker promotion project, MaSports KuVanhu, has joined hands with young businessman, Albert Mataga to give pool players a befitting Christmas present in a potentially explosive 32 Best of the Best Open competition set for today (Friday) at Tagaz Pool Joint in Palmerstone.
The tournament starts at 10am.
In a race to seven format, players from different parts of the country, including Harare, Gweru, Bulawayo, Beitbridge and Bulawayo among other places will converge in the eastern border city for the pool contest.
Registration, which attracted a fee of US$25, closed yesterday (Thursday) night.
Mataga said: “We are delighted to have the 32 Best of the Best Open competition at Tagaz Pool Joint, and it promises to be a big event, given the timing as well as the enthusiasm within the contestants ahead of the tournament.
“This is the second big tournament that we have hosted this year and we are happy with the response we have been getting, more so in Friday’s (today) tournament, which is certainly going to be bigger than the first.”
The winner of the 32 Best of the Best competition will walk away US$500 richer, while the runner-up will get US$300. The second runner-up will take home US$200.
The fourth placed player will get US$100.
The rewarding competition will also see the one with most break and finishes getting US$30 as well as a host of other complimentary prizes that are expected to be dished out on the day, thanks to the partnership with cigarette producers, Remmington Gold.
To be played on six tables, three standard easy eight tables and three united tables on speed cloth, the draw for the competition is manual and there will be no seeding of contestants.
MaSports KuVanhu chief executive, George Mutavayi weighed in saying: “There is a slight chance that we could increase the number of players from 32 to 48 and this all depends on the response we will get, but so far so good.
“The response has been overwhelming and we are happy about that. It is also crucial to note that we will also have Remmington Gold coming in with other complimentary prizes and it promises to be an exciting event.”
