BIDVEST WITS defender Onismor Bhasera is happy that his team ended in a respectable position in the first half of the season. They are third behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs who have not lost a single game.
Chiefs won their last game 1-0 against Tendai Ndoro, Energy Murambadoro and Tinashe Nengomasha’s Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Mandla Masango scored the solitary goal to end his year on a high note.
“Of course I enjoyed the first half of the season the team played good football with one mentality to put Wits in a respected position.
“We did well and we want to continue with the same rhythm when we come back early January for the training as there will be no official games due to the Africa Cup of Nations finals which will be hosted in Equatorial Guinea until February,” said Bhasera.
The former Plymouth Argyle defender believes he contributed immensely to the success of the team.
His said his secret was hard work, discipline and being attentive to his coach Gavin Hunt’s instructions.
The former Warriors leftback is the only Zimbabwean player who was retained by Hunt this season after he off-loaded Tinashe Nengomasha, Thomas Sweswe, Benjani Mwaruwari and loaned Denver Mukamba out for a season.
Meanwhile, Wits drew 0-0 with Pretoria University in their last game before the festive season break. AmaTuks’ Thabo Mnyamane received his marching orders after a second bookable offence in the second half.
