SOULFUL musician Bhila, born Patriach Manyabi, is expanding his artistic repertoire to include acting. The “Wamuhle” hitmaker shared this exciting news during an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, right as anticipation builds for the release of his upcoming single, “Emaweni,” set to drop this Monday.
Bhila, who has rapidly gained popularity in the music scene since releasing his debut album “Iphephandaba” in 2023, sees acting as a natural progression in his creative journey.
“Acting has always been something that I fancied,” he revealed. Currently, he is shooting a project titled “Lobola Heist” with ZBC. I had hinted in past interviews that I used to do theatre at university. Last year, I went for acting auditions, and they called me for this gig. I’m excited; I think it’s an exciting drama,” he added.
In “Lobola Heist,” Bhila plays the character of Ntando, a role he is enthusiastic about but is keeping under wraps for now.
“I can’t dwell more on the character, but it’s going to be lovely. I hope it will screen soon on TV. It’s a series not to miss,” he said, generating buzz among fans eager to see this new side of the artiste.
Alongside his acting pursuits, Bhila is set to release “Emaweni,” a soulful ballad featuring Gwanda’s own Afropop star, Kaykid Umfanomsotho.
Describing the song, Bhila explained that it offers what he does best—love songs.
“This soulful ballad tells the story of a man who’s head over heels in love with a woman who lives far away,” he said. The lyrics reflect the emotional depth of long-distance love, capturing the essence of yearning and connection despite physical separation.
“Emaweni symbolises a growing trend of long-distance relationships in today’s world, especially in Zimbabwe. Our song is a celebration of the love that flourishes despite the miles between two people,” Bhila elaborated, showcasing his talent for weaving relatable narratives into his music.
Bhila’s transition into acting is part of a broader trend where musicians are increasingly venturing into the world of performance arts.
The industry has seen successful cross-overs before, with notable figures like Albert Nyathi, the late Safirio “Mukadota” Madzikatire, and Mudiwa Hood making their mark in both music and acting.
Bhila’s foray into acting aligns him with this legacy, and fans are excited to see how he will blend his musical talents with his newfound acting career. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
