Hail the king! South African Amapiano multi-award-winning DJ Kabelo “Kabza De Small” Motha has accomplished a lot in the African music scene and he is worthy to be celebrated.
Despite him hailed as the King of Amapiano, the one who gave birth, natured the genre to become a global musical giant as it is today, Kabza has managed to open doors to many Amapiano artistes who now live a “soft life” due to the success of the genre, and for that reason, he deserve to be given his flowers while he can still smell them.
As such, local Afro-Soul muso Bhila has paid homage to the Mzansi superstar as he created a mini-verse, which was recorded with Kabza’s latest instrumental for the song Kabza Chunt.
The original song features an impressive range of Amapiano stars who joined forces to create a captivating tribute to Kabza.
Huge names on the track include Young Stunna, Nkosazana Daughter, Mthunzi, Nokwazi, Anzo, Mashudu, Murumba Pitch and Tman Xpress are on the track.
Bhila said Kabza De Small deserves all the praise and glory as he put Amapiano and African music on the world map.
He said the multi-award-winning DJ has also changed a lot of artistes’ lives through producing for them and making sure everyone benefits and gets a reasonable piece of the cake.

“I did this mini verse on top of Kabza Chant because I loved the groove. It’s a beautiful piece and I saw it necessary to make a contribution on such an amazing instrumental. It’s my kind of vibe, as it takes me back to our roots that is fused with a tribal feel.
It reminds me of how cool African rhythms are. The verse is a prayer outlining the role played by Kabza’s music to the people across the world and how his music creates joy and comforts people from all the walks of life. I pray that he continues to be blessed and be allowed to do what he knows best which is music because he is assigned to do exactly that. On the verse, I then emphasised to him that he should know this is a God-given talent,” said Bhila.
Meanwhile, on 8 and 9 June, Kabza made history as he teamed up with conductor Ofentse Pitse and Symphonic Orchestra for the Red Bull Symphonic Concert, which took place at Gold Reef City, Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg. Billed by Red Bull as a “sonic collision of two worlds”, the event featured a revised version of Kabza’s extensive repertoire transposed over an orchestra.
Red Bull Symphonic, as a concept, aims to fuse two unlikely worlds by bringing together a contemporary-style artist/musician and a traditional music director with the glue of a full-blown symphonic orchestra. The contemporary artiste’s catalogue is given a major facelift and re-arranged with the vision of the music director in mind as well as the capabilities of the team of the orchestra.
Coupled with a prestigious venue, the Red Bull Symphonic aims to breathe new life on the performance side of the artist’s catalogue, re-imagining the discography in a one-night-only show. Songs performed during the event included hits such as Adiwele, Nana Thula, Imithandazo, and Emcimbini, accompanied by stellar performances from
Young Stunna, MaWhoo, Nkosazana Daughter, Njelic, Sizwe Alakine, and Mthunzi among others. The concert, which was sold-out in five hours, was graced by the likes of DJ Maphorisa, BET Award-winning singer-songwriter Sjava, as well as R&B artiste Donald.
