BULAWAYO Afro-pop musician Patriarch W. J. Manyabi, popularly known as Bhila, has released a single, UThixo Uyamangalisa, as he builds momentum towards his upcoming Bhila Live in Concert, set for October 2.
The faith-inspired song sees Bhila turning his attention to gratitude, hope and the importance of acknowledging God’s grace in moments of achievement.
Since making his professional entry into the music scene in 2023, Bhila has established himself as a storyteller whose music draws inspiration from everyday experiences, love, culture and social issues. His sound blends Afro-pop with traditional Zimbabwean influences and contemporary soul.
His growing catalogue includes songs such as Wamuhle, Emaweni, GP, Lindela, CIMA and his 2026 single, Jikela.
The musician reached a major milestone in 2025 when he sold out his maiden solo concert at the Bulawayo Theatre. He later capped off the year by winning a Bulawayo Arts Award for Outstanding Alternative Music.
With UThixo Uyamangalisa, Bhila explores a more spiritual message, using the song to celebrate the blessings that people often enjoy while reminding them not to forget the prayers and hopes that came before those achievements.
He said the release was intentional and forms part of the build-up to his second major live concert. The song praises God for the love, blessings and beautiful homes that people have, with Bhila describing such achievements as a reflection of God’s grace.
“In all the good you achieve, remember you wished for it to happen and prayed countless times. Now when blessed, you have to give praise to God’s greatness so as to get protection and guidance,” he said.
The song also draws inspiration from what he is building in his own life. Rather than keeping that journey to himself, Bhila said he wanted to share the moment with others who are also working towards building meaningful lives and pursuing their dreams.
“Indeed, the song is personal. The influence is from what I’m currently building. Hence, I saw it important to celebrate with everyone in this phase and those willing to build,” he said.
Musically, Bhila has remained faithful to the sound that has helped him connect with his growing audience, saying there was little reason to move away from a style that listeners have embraced.
“The sound is similar to Bhila sound. People love the sound, hence there is really no need to change,” he said.
