A MAN was found dead yesterday morning, lying on a passage of a building under renovation at Jairos Jiri Craft Shop along First Street in Mutare, with police yet to establish his identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident, saying police attended the scene after receiving a report.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police received a report of the discovery of a body of an unknown male adult at Jairos Jiri Craft Shop along First Street, Mutare. Police attended the scene and inspected the body,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
He said the body was discovered by a passerby who had reported for work at the craft shop when he noticed people gathered at the scene.
“A passerby had reported for work at Jairos Jiri Craft Shop. Upon arrival, he noticed people gathered at the scene and went to find out what had happened,” he said.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said he discovered the unidentified man lying motionless on a passage of the building.
“Upon approaching the scene, he noticed an unknown male adult lying dead on the passage of a building which is under renovation. He subsequently made a report at ZRP Mutare Central,” he said.
Police attended the scene and conducted an initial examination of the body.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said there were no visible injuries on the body, although investigations are still underway to establish the cause of death.
“Police attended the scene and inspected the body. There were no visible injuries observed on the deceased. The body was conveyed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination,” he said.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information concerning the identity of the deceased or relatives who may have a missing family member to approach their nearest police station and assist with investigations.
