THE Liquor Traders Association of Zimbabwe (LTAZ) has warned against the increasing sale of illicit alcohol and counterfeit products in the country.

The association has urged authorities to take action to combat the sale of substandard and unsafe products, which are endangering public health and driving legitimate traders out of business.

It has encouraged consumers to purchase their drinks only from licensed liquor outlets and to be vigilant when purchasing from unfamiliar sources.

Stakeholders in the industry have been encouraged to work together to eliminate the production and sale of illicit alcohol and counterfeit products.

The association’s spokesperson, Nyaradzo Manonge, called on authorities to take a strong stance against illegal practices and ensure that perpetrators face the full force of the law.

“We are heading into the festive season and we cannot allow unscrupulous individuals to undermine our efforts to promote responsible drinking and support legitimate liquor businesses in Zimbabwe.

“We urge all stakeholders to work together to eliminate the production and sale of illicit alcohol and counterfeit products,” said Manonge.

The association also encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious activities related to the sale of illicit alcohol.

“The sale of illicit alcohol is not only detrimental to public health, but it also harms legitimate liquor traders who are operating under difficult economic conditions.”
