DHL Express Zimbabwe and Teach for Zimbabwe organised a three-day job shadowing visit for 40 students from 10 secondary schools in Mutoko to get a feel of the real world of work.
The students toured DHL facilities, departments, Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and Boka Tobacco Floors as part of the DHL Go Teach Programme.
DHL Express Zimbabwe country manager, Susan Katsukunya, said the event was organised to bring the world of work to life for the students.
“We are honoured to get this time to spend with these brilliant students.
“Our employers get to volunteer their time, sharing their experience and expertise to inspire and support our participants, and bring the world of work to life.
“The students participated in department tours and guided customer visits with an expectation of empowering, enlightening and giving career guidance,” said Katsukunya.
Teach for Zimbabwe CEO, Dr Mirriam Farai Jabangwe-Siwela, said job shadowing exposes rural students to the world of tomorrow.
“We are showing rural learners the world of tomorrow, not just theoretically but practically, and we are equipping them with the skills they need to be future leaders.
“This type of mentoring is lacking in our education.
“A lot of our young people don’t have mentors that can tell them areas they are passionate about and show them different industries, especially current trends in accountancy and engineering,” she said.
Mutoko High School student, Ronald Mazvimba, said the trip was a memorable one.
“I learnt that you should continue to learn, re-learn and you should not give up on your destiny.”
