MUSHAGASHE Vocational Training Centre in Masvingo will be under the spotlight today when it hosts the National Youth Day.

This year’s edition, which is expected to attract over 30 000 youths across the country, will be held under the theme: “Positioning, Youth Empowerment And Development Towards Achieving Vision 2030”.

The day will be marked with festivities to be headlined by the Chillspot Records clique of DJ Fantan and DJ Levels.

After last year’s successful edition in Lupane, fireworks are expected at  Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre, 26 kms north of Masvingo.

Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Tino Machakaire, told journalists early this week that it was all systems go.

“Having the main celebrations in different provinces will enable the youths and the Government to engage in specific community exchange programmes, provide young people with opportunities for ownership, accountability, responsibility and sustainability for initiatives while leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

This year’s edition comes at a time when the Government has declared drug and substance abuse a national disaster.

The Government has been working round the clock to ensure that the problem is addressed.

The police have also been hailed for a sterling job in bringing to book drug paddlers.

Names of drug barons, who have been arrested and convicted, are constantly being published by the police as a warning to would-be offenders.
