LONDON. — The much-anticipated showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr looks set to go ahead after positive talks between the pair and contract issues seemingly resolved.
It has taken around six years of wrangling for the world’s best pound-for-pound boxers to get this close to fighting but after they exchanged phone numbers at Miami Heat’s NBA clash with Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, and an hour-long conversation in an hotel, both appear keen to go head-to-head at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2.
Mayweather’s team, amid talk of a rematch with Miguel Cotto, have insisted no contract has been drawn up but with Pacquiao happy to accept a 40 percent purse split, an announcement is possible this weekend on Super Bowl.
“For the most part, it was just Floyd, Manny and I in the room and it was a very good conversation. Nobody can stop this. I can’t stop it. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum can’t stop it, HBO can’t stop it, Showtime can’t and Mayweather’s advisor Al Haymon can’t.
