Big Five concert roars to life

It will be a big day for upcoming musician Sam Dondo as he unveils his debut album in the presence of elders in the industry. The much-anticipated Big Five concert featuring the country’s top musicians takes place tonight at Alex Sports Club. The top five — Oliver Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu and Winky D — will share the stage with newcomer Sam Dondo who will be launching his debut album.It is likely to be a historic event as the cream of local music comes on one stage for a potentially explosive gig.

Mtukudzi, who is known as the Superstar, remains the biggest musician in the land and has vast experience to deliver flawless acts on big stages.

He has toured internationally and performed before huge multi-racial crowds. He knows how to wow fans at such big shows and he will be out to prove his mettle through his hits.

It will also be a chance for Mtukudzi to say ‘thank you’ to fellow musicians and fans that graced the Sam Mtukudzi commemoration at his Pakare Paye Arts Centre for a massive concert last month.

Besides Winky D, all the other musicians performing tonight were part of Sam Mtukudzi commemoration and they are likely to repeat the great performances they put up last month. It is set to be a memorable gig indeed.

Alick Macheso is currently on top of his game following the success of his latest album “Tsoka Dzerwendo”. He has been attracting huge crowds at his shows since the release of the album and his fans will definitely be cheering him on tonight.

He recently introduced a new chant “Ane Pamuromo” that has been making waves at his shows. The return of his key band members Obert Gomba and Jonasi Kasamba has boosted morale in the Orchestra Mberikwazvo camp. The band continues to exhibit serious energy on stage and tonight will be another platform for them to showcase their expertise.

Jah Prayzah remains one of sought-after musicians in the land because of his unique act. He has shown at various events that his team has serious energy.

The musician recently toured the United Kingdom were he left lasting impressions and he will be going on another international tour soon. His Third Generation band is known for outstanding choreography that is regularly punctuated with comic acts from Lloyd “Mabla 10” Kurima.

Jah Prayzah and Suluman feature on Dondo’s album that will be launched tonight.

Suluman has kept dendera music alive and has also spiced the genre with new styles that have attracted new followers.

He has proved that the genre that his father founded some decades ago can stand the test of time and he claimed a slot in the top five through the beat.

Sulu has been sampling new songs at his shows ahead of his 2016 album that will come later this year and tonight he might give fans pieces of the upcoming release.

Winky D will be representing the popular Zimdancehall genre that has made him a household name. The talented musician is known for his energetic performances that have even outclassed international acts on numerous occasions.

He has an unmatched ability to interact with his fans during performances and he always goes off stage with showers of praise.

It is rare for an upcoming musician to have such a massive launch and Dondo will have to prove that he deserves such honour.
