Hip-hop musician Asaph has dropped an EP, Big Mhofu, to celebrate his nomination in the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA).
Asaph who is signed under Def Jam Africa record label, has been nominated for the Outstanding Male Artiste of the Year and Outstanding Hip-hop Artiste.
The EP, which was released two weeks ago, has seven tracks which are Mtukudzi Flow, Nothing To Lose featuring Ganyaz Jr, Keeping It G, Learn To Live featuring Bhekiwe, The Business featuring Holy Alpha, First Day featuring Bhekiwe again and Thebelele featuring Loki.
Asaph said the EP has been well received by the fans and this is confirmed by the feedback he has been receiving since its release.
He said through the songs on the EP he is reclaiming his identity which he said is more than just being a rapper.
“Big Mhofu is about who I am and how I was raised as a citizen. I want to regain my identity as a Zimbabwean musician who went through challenges in life to be where I am today. My songs are meant to inspire the nation to be united as we work to transform our livelihoods for the better,” said Asaph.

He said he was at the stage of rebuilding his confidence so that he is not limited by shame that comes with making bad decisions in a small city.
“Big Mhofu is all about continuity of God’s mission, a rebirth and rededication,” said Asaph.
Asaph’s Big Mhofu is his third EP after Diamonds deserve diamonds released in 2017 and the People’s Rapper released in 2019.
He also has three albums to his name and these are Kingsvilla, Kingsvilla 2 and Twenty Five.
Asaph has done collaborations with some of Zimbabwe’s finest artistes such as Msiz’kay (Aspheli Moya), Gemma and Nutty O (+263) and South Africa’s Loki (Thebelele).
“Am really excited about the way my music has been received by the public and am also grateful to Def Jam Africa for seeing the potential in me. I will keep on working hard as I strive to be among the best in Zimbabwe and beyond,’’ he said.

Asaph won the Outstanding Hip-hop Artiste award in the 2018 RoilBAAs.
In 2020 he won four gongs at the Zimbabwe Hip-hop Awards and in the same year was nominated for the Best Hip Hop artiste at the at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima).
Asaph was again in 2020 shortlisted to represent Zimbabwe in the MTV Music Awards (MAMA) for People Choice Award.
