ZIMBABWEAN athletes in power lifting and strongman competitions are making an impact and raising the country’s flag high regionally.
The athletes recently bagged gold, silver, and bronze in different competitions in Zambia and South Africa.
Chido Maenzanise, Robert Chilause, John Zundiza, Wayne Rushwaya, Lewis Nyathikazi, participated in South Africa, while Regina Jonga was in Zambia.
Maenzanise emerged with a gold medal in the Open category in East Rand strongest while Zundiza won a gold, Rushwaya and Nakitasi winning silver respectively.
Chilause won a bronze and Jonga alongside a Zambian rival at the Zambia Copper belt strongest.
The development is a major boost ahead of the Africa Strongman Championships and Dubai World Strongman in October.
Zimbabwe Strongman Federation chairman, Knowledge ‘Knox’ Musengi, said the association is impressed by the achievements from the athletes.
“Zimbabwe is on the rise, and our strongmen and women are leading the charge.
“I am beaming with pride, and our Zimbabwean strongmen and women have made the nation proud, conquering the competition in South Africa and Zambia.
“Their strength, determination, and unwavering spirit have paid off, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
“As a chairman, I am honoured to lead a nation that breeds champions.
“Our athletes’ victories are a testament to their hard work and the country’s potential.
“I am proud of their grit, resilience, and sportsmanship,” said Knox.
He also said, the triumph is an inspiration to the new generation.
“This triumph will inspire a new generation of Zimbabweans to pursue excellence in sports and beyond.
“It will continue supporting our athletes, fostering an environment where they can thrive and make us proud globally.
“So, as the federation, we are reaching out to more athletes who are becoming more competitive outside Zimbabwe.
“All these have qualified for representing Zimbabwe at the regional level Africa Strongman Championship in October.
“We are still to select more athletes at the upcoming event on April 25, to join these other six to represent Zimbabwe at the African competitions.
“The competitions will be held at Long Cheng.”
Following her triumph, Maenzanise said, this is the beginning and called for more sponsorship.
