BIG THREE IN TURMOIL: ALL PART WAYS WITH COACHES BEFORE SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON

FOR the first time in the history of the domestic Premiership, all the three members of the traditional Big Three clubs — Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United — have parted ways with their coaches before the start of the second half of the season.

CAPS United were the first when the Green Machine finally separated with coach Lloyd Chitembwe who left with a record as being the only man who has featured in all the club’s major success stories since Independence.

He was part of the team, as a player, when they won the championship in 1996, 2004 and 2005 and he was the coach who guided the club to the league title in 2016.

Chitembwe is also the only CAPS United coach to guide the club into the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

But, after a poor start to the season, CAPS United owner Farai Jere had to make the big call to let Chitembwe go and brought in another former player Ian Bakala of Zambia to lead the team.

Dynamos then followed suit when they parted ways with Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe, after a poor start to the campaign, and replaced him with Saul Chaminuka.

The Glamour Boys sit third from the bottom of the table with just 14 points to their credit, the same number of points as Yadah, who are second from the bottom of the table.

The reality for Dynamos, though, is that they are set to lose their abandoned game against FC Platinum in the boardroom and the 0-3 scoreline means their goal difference will be minus eight.

With Yadah having a goal difference of minus six, the true picture of the table is that Dynamos are second-from-the-bottom of the table.

Highlanders are nine points better than Dynamos but the club’s chiefs still felt that coach Kelvin Kaindu was not the right man to guide them to success this season.

The pressure among the Big Three is relentless and it is being exerted by the ambitious newboys who, powered with the right resources and ambition, are leading the race for the league championship.

The arrival of the MWOS and Scottland have added some spice to the PSL.

CAPS United have tried to flex their financial muscle but the truth is that Bosso and DeMbare simply can’t compete with these newboys.

Maybe, Bosso will be able to get some good players now that they have a US$1 million cash boost from Wicknell Chivayo.

We are not sure where Dynamos will get the money to pay the FIFA fine and then bring in new players to boost a squad which has shown, in the first half of the season, that it is largely lightweight.

In such an environment it’s the coaches who are being sacrificed but the reality, especially for Bosso and DeMbare, is that they simply didn’t have the financial muscle to compete against the newboys.

The coaches will come and go but without the right funding the results will continue to elude them.
