WATCH: Commander ZNA to officiate at Schools Sports Competition and Merit Awards

COMMANDER Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Lieutenant General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, is today expected to officiate at the 2026 Zimbabwe National Army Schools Sports Competition and Merit Awards at Induna Barracks in Bulawayo.

The annual event brings together learners from Zimbabwe National Army schools across the country to compete in a range of sporting, academic and military-themed activities aimed at nurturing well-rounded pupils.

Over the past four days, participants have competed in athletics, netball, basketball, football, volleyball and chess, while also taking part in music and quiz competitions.
The programme also featured junior cadet contests, with learners showcasing their discipline and teamwork through precision drill displays.

Commander 1 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier-General Ernest Shamu, said the event has become an important platform for identifying and developing young talent while instilling values central to the Zimbabwe National Army.

The Commander of the ZNA will preside over the 2026 Zimbabwe National Army Schools Sports Competition and Merit Awards at Induna Barracks today. For the past four days our schools have been battling it out for honours,” he said.

Brig-Gen Shamu said the competition seeks to promote talent development, discipline, unity and the integration of heritage and indigenous knowledge into the school curriculum to support the holistic development of learners.

Outstanding performers from the various sporting, academic and cadet competitions are expected to be recognised during the awards ceremony.
