It is true that girls are dominating and soon enough they will rule the world with their creative, intelligent minds. Another light of girl power who represented her school was Sharon Kwinjo of Arundel School.
The teen who is majoring in A-level Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Accounts at Arundel Girls High came out with straight As in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Accounts, Literature in English at O-level last year.
She shared some of her golden rules at the awards show where she was one of the students who received recognition for their brilliant achievements.
The bright young woman believes that with the right attitude more girls should be shining bright, instead of falling by the wayside as though there is a biological reason for their failure.
Sharon urged fellow students to work hard in their education so as to create a bright future.
Sharon said some girls fail to attain their goals because of bad influence which disrupts them and stops them from concentrating on their school work.
She said one needs to have friends who will help them focus on the things that are important like school work.
“Working hard is the key to success and students should avoid bad influence. I have come across people that want to distract me, but the most important thing is to shun such company,” she said.
She also said that teens should not be afraid of being who they are, as one is a product of their background and accepting that will lead to a bright future.
“Success lies in knowing and understanding your background,” said Sharon.
Down to earth and practical in her approach to life, Sharon is already set on the path to her future. At a stage where some of her peers still do not know what they want to be, Sharon has her goals firmly set and knows exactly where she is headed.
After university she would like to pursue a career in actuarial sciences, a field of the insurance industry. But with biology and chemistry as part of her A-Level certificate, she has room to change her mind and venture into other fields.
Tendai Makoni from Chembira Secondary said the awards served a purpose as they recognise the excellence in students.
“I think they help motivate us to read more so as to clinch the award next year. I so loved the choreography and the set up,” he said.
