Bigwigs clash

Herald Reporter
Bigwigs in Professor Welshman Ncube’s MDC formation are up in arms with the party’s leadership over the imposition of the party’s secretary-general Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga in Matabeleland South under the women’s quarter for the National Assembly. Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga does not come from Matabeleland South province and is a former Glen Norah legislator in Harare.

The Herald is reliably informed that bigwigs from the party’s Matabeleland region and the women’s assembly have demanded to meet Prof Ncube over the matter, saying Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga’s imposition was even against the MDC’s policy of devolution.

This comes amid revelations that the MDC had initially directed that Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga contests for a position in Harare, a situation she was not comfortable with considering the fierce inter-party competition in the capital.

“Senior party officials from Matabeleland region were supposed to meet Prof Ncube in Bulawayo on Monday at 11am, but the meeting was later cancelled.

They want an explanation from Prof Ncube on who gave Misihairabwi-Mushonga the green light to represent the party in Matabeleland South. The senior leadership in Matabeleland South is angry with some accusing MDC treasurer Mr Paul Themba Nyathi of facilitating her imposition.

A storm is brewing in the party right now as Matabeleland South as a province was not consulted over the matter,” a source said.
