A GROUP of Ugandan bikers, who are currently on an Ubuntu adventure ride across Southern Africa, rolled into the capital over the weekend.
The five riders have so far completed a journey from Uganda to South Africa, via Botswana, and entered Zimbabwe, through Beitbridge.
On Saturday, the bikers were joined by their local counterparts, who took them through a domestic tour in Mbare, Highfield and Mufakose.
“We were humbled by the reception from the bikers in Zimbabwe who led us through as we made our way to the capital after riding 581 kms.
“We met lovely people, goats, wild animals, along our way and, besides the detours due to construction on the major highway, the roads are nice and we enjoyed the ride to Harare.
“There are so many bikers associations in Zimbabwe and they’re all growing the culture that has led us to ride through 12 countries in Southern Africa,” said Ssebunya KaluusiMann.
ZimFree Riders Association member Tafadzwa Matiza said they were honoured to host their counterparts.
“It was a historical visit and we made sure the Ugandan bikers had a smooth passage from Beitbridge to Harare and then out through Mozambique.
“We exchanged notes and also had a chilled afternoon at Mashwede and we are willing to engage all local bikers for similar Ubuntu rides,” said Matiza.
The Ugandan bikers who are now on Day 29 of their tour, left yesterday for Mozambique and hope to complete the Ubuntu ride in 40 days, or less.
