Bikita Minerals are looking forward to assembling a competitive squad ahead of their maiden season in the top flight next year.
The club brought back topflight football to Masvingo province after a lengthy period in the wilderness.
Bikita Minerals got their ticket through the boardroom at the expense of Tenax after being awarded three points from their 1-1 draw against Grayham, who were found guilty of using an ineligible player.
The Lithium Boys were formed in 2015 before turning into a professional league the following year. They only needed three full seasons in Division One before they gained topflight status.
In 2018 they finished fourth, and in 2019 they finished fifth before regrouping this year after missing in 2022 due to the Covid 19 effects.
Club chairman, Mike Mushava believes their biggest priority is to survive relegation and they need to work extra hard in their preparations to ensure they are competitive.
“At the beginning of the season, we were just focusing on putting in a top-three finish but come the end of the season we were crowned champions.
“It’s a definite course for us to be excited but we can’t keep on celebrating as we need to brace up for topflight.
“From history, we have learned that topflight isn’t a kids’ game, especially for the promoted teams. We have to do due diligence in our preparations and make sure that we won’t be the wiping boys.
“We strongly believe in ourselves and that’s why we are here, but to be honest we still have a lot of work to do.
“The team is going to be beefed up as we try to romp in some boys with top-flight experience which is important to balance the team. We will also accommodate the guys we had from Division One. We have to reward them and also prove themselves on the big stage. It’s their chance to develop further as players and we are ready to hand them a chance.
“Of course there is a wish list, but the technical team is responsible for that. Our duty as the executive is to make sure that we do not recruit deadwood and we manage to assemble a team that will compete with everyone.”
