THE opposition CCC will not hesitate to recall rowdy legislators who are in the habit of disrupting Parliamentary business, the party’s secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu has said.
This comes as last week Speaker of the House of Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda was last week forced to suspend CCC MPs for four sittings because of their rowdy behavior.
This conduct, which has become the norm among opposition parliamentarians, is not acceptable any further, according to Mr Tshabangu.
In an interview yesterday, Tshabangu reprimanded CCC MPs to desist from exhibiting questionable behaviours in Parliament but rather respect the National House of Assembly’s rules.
He said action would be taken against those who decide not to take heed.
“It’s uncalled for and we will be engaging Parliament, we know what is lacking in Parliament its leadership.
“We will be engaging the Parliament caucus and I am sure there are a few individuals who need to be really put into line because they believe the Parliament is still the fighting space where you can throw stones, Parliament is a fighting zone where we bring ideas, we fight with ideas,” he said.
The CCC secretary-general also implored MPs from the party to respect the House of National Assembly as it was a policy making platform.
“These are institutions where policies are made so we expect Parliament to rise above party politics and individual politics so that we can build this country.
“It can only be built if we respect the rules and guidelines of Parliament as an institution so definitely yes we will take action,” said.
Further, the CCC secretary-general revealed that the recent recalls were not any individual decision but were done after consultations with the party’s leadership.
“These recalls are not initiated by an individual, or a group of people but they are initiated by the party collectively so if the party decides that recalls are no longer serving the purpose, that recalls have really answered, then we will be guided by the party,” he said.
Tshabangu buttressed his position as secretary-general saying no one in the opposition outfit should underestimate his role.
“I have said before that anybody who will underestimate the resolve, my capacity as a secretary-general that person will face the consequences,” he said.
