HUNDREDS of people, including mine employees, their families and residents from surrounding communities, benefited from a three-day free medical camp hosted by Bikita Minerals (Private) Limited in partnership with the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe.

The outreach programme, held at the Bikita Mine clinic from July 8 to 10, 2026, provided free physical examinations, specialised medical consultations, health education and traditional Chinese medicine services, including acupuncture.

In a statement, Bikita Minerals said the initiative was conducted under the theme “Joint Free Medical Camp of Sinomine Resource Group and the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe” and was aimed at improving access to quality healthcare in the rural district.

The company said the programme delivered “comprehensive, specialized healthcare services to hundreds of mine employees, their families, and residents from surrounding local communities.”

Bikita Minerals said the outreach brought critical medical services closer to people in an area where affordable specialised healthcare is often difficult to access.

The medical team was led by public health and pharmacy specialist Dr Ma Zheng and included 10 Chinese medical professionals drawn from fields such as traditional Chinese medicine, hepatology, endocrinology, orthopaedics, respiratory medicine, cardiology, general surgery and medical imaging.

According to the statement, the event was conducted under the guidance of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, with support from the Chinese Government and the Hunan Provincial Health Commission.

In addition to consultations and treatment, the programme included a medicine donation ceremony for the local clinic, as well as basic cardiac life support and first-aid training for community members.

Bikita Minerals said multidisciplinary consultations were coordinated across 10 specialty areas, while a trilingual service desk operating in Chinese, English and Shona ensured accessibility for all participants.

The company said its management delegation also visited Bikita District Hospital, where they met Mr Result Madzvamuse, a local patient recovering after a leg amputation.

“The mine management offered strong psychological support, solidarity, and well-wishes to Mr. Madzvamuse and his family during this challenging rehabilitation period,” the statement said.

It added that all medical and surgical costs associated with Mr Madzvamuse’s hospitalisation and procedure had been fully covered by Bikita Minerals.

The statement said the outreach also included community charity visits to vulnerable households in nearby villages and recreational activities involving the Bikita Minerals team and the Chinese medical delegation.

Bikita Minerals described the programme as a reflection of the long-standing medical cooperation between Zimbabwe and China, noting that China has deployed 23 medical teams to Zimbabwe since 1985.

The current Chinese medical team began its one-year mission in Zimbabwe in March 2026.

“As one of Zimbabwe’s largest lithium producers, Bikita Minerals continues to demonstrate that responsible corporate practices extend beyond mineral extraction to actively foster health, safety, and sustainable community development,” the statement said.
