adminJOHANNESBURG. — Mamelodi Sundowns’ and Zimbabwean attacking midfielder, Khama Billiat, has identified that the finishing aspect of his game still requires work, ahead of the 2015-16 South African Premiership soccer campaign.
The 24-year-old contributed to 16 of Downs’ goals in all competitions last season, scoring 10 and creating six. Only fellow Zimbabwean, Cuthbert Malajila, was more productive than the attacking midfielder, contributing to 22 of the team’s goals.
Ahead of the 2015-16 campaign, Billiat has identified some priority areas that need to be ironed out and is confident that he is on the right track.
“I think I should continue to work on my finishing. I have said this before that I find a lot of chances, but don’t score that much. If I can score just half of the chances I find, then I can easily become a top goalscorer. I should also work on creating more chances for my teammates,” he said.
“I think it’s the technique that I use when I’m in the scoring position that let me down. I think I should work on how I take my chances in the box. It’s all about the technique.
“I always put in extra work at training. Most of the time, I remain behind and work on my finishing. Coach Pitso (Mosimane) is also helping me a lot with my game, more especially my finishing. He keeps pushing me to the limit. He always encourages me to keep on working hard,” Billiat added.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United’s Zimbabwean striker Kingston Nkhatha faces disciplinary action from the club following his sending off in Tuesday night’s MTN8 loss to Bidvest Wits.
Nkhatha was booked twice in stoppage time — first for holding up play and then for showing dissent to referee Victor Gomes — after he replaced Dove Wome in the 69th minute at Bidvest Stadium. The scores were locked at 1-1 at the time, with Wits previously having Buhle Mhkwanazi sent off in the 78th minute.
However, the Clever Boys then took control of the tie in extra-time, courtesy of goals from new signing Daine Klate and veteran forward Henrico Botes.
