FOLLOWING the withdrawal of rugby from this year’s Africa Games, Zimbabwe have now shifted focus to the Namibia SAFland Sevens Rugby tournament in Windhoek next month.
Zimbabwe were among 11 African countries who were set to participate at the 11th edition of the Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville next month.
But African Rugby have pulled out of the continental event.
With the Cheetahs preparing for their Olympic qualifiers, the Africa Games could have been a good preparatory platform for the match-starved side.
The Cheetahs will now be heading to play at the two-day Namibia SAFland Sevens Rugby tournament on September 25-26.
But the Sports Commission director of sport development and chef de mission for Team Zimbabwe at the Africa Games, Joseph Muchechetere, described the withdrawal of sevens rugby from the Games as a huge blow.
