A 28-year-old man from Bindura, who was found in possession of human skeletal remains at the Kitsiyatota mining area, has appeared before the Bindura Magistrates’ Court facing charges of violating graves.

Alfred Chinjiva is accused of illegally exhuming a grave and taking a skull along with other human remains.

Chinjiva appeared in court and has been remanded in custody pending further investigations.

The accused was initially arrested on 2 February after being found in possession of a dummy pistol at the Kitsiyatota mining site.

Following his arrest, police searched his residence in Chipandura Park, where they made the disturbing discovery.

According to the State, officers recovered human remains from the house, including two skulls wrapped in cloths, bones concealed in buckets, and plastic containers holding soil, suspected human bones and hair.

Police believe the recovered items are linked to the alleged grave violation, and investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

The matter will be heard again on a date to be advised.
