and farmers in the area have come together to hold the sporting gala that will run parallel to a musical show.
Co-coordinator of the festival, Confidence Munyukwi, said they had noted the power of such events in uniting a nation.
“Football has been known to silence guns, even in the most volatile of places.
“We don’t have guns in our communities but we believe that through the vehicle of sport and music we can promote the message of peace to the people of Mashonaland Central and Zimbabweans at large.
“Even the country’s leadership have been challenging everyone that peace begins with you, it begins with me.
“Now through these sporting teams, the message of peace will also be spread and I am sure the teams will also exercise the spirit of Fair Play,’’ Munyukwi said. He also said they had invited some of the country’s football legends like Stanford “Stix’’ Mtizwa and George Shaya to grace the occasion.
Mashonaland Central has been trying to produce another team that will compete in the Premiership following the relegation of Mwana Africa, who held the nation spellbound in 2007 with a fairy-tale run in the Caf Confederation Cup tournament, a year after they had won the CBZ Cup.
